"Two Rondinos, Op. 68: I and II" are great examples of the feeling put into these works. They have power drawn from the romantic era but the structured beauty of the Classical. Heidi Saario's "Jean Sibelius - Compositions for Piano" is full of beauty and feeling that shines through in this recording.

“Leaving Israel” by Jenni Thompson (Classical Piano Artist from United Kingdom)

"Leaving Israel" is the debut single from UK composer/arranger Jenni Thompson. Although she is primarily a jazz vocalist and violinist, Thompson shows off her talents as a pianist and, more precisely, as a classical pianist on the track. The single is an original composition written just after a life-changing trip Thompson took to Israel in the summer of 2007. The song begins slowly but quickly moves into a beautiful and haunting build. Thompson pays attention to the entire piano as she keeps the rhythm with the lower keys whilst playing a sweet progression with the higher keys. The song befits the music and would be a perfect soundtrack to a scene in a film where someone is looking sentimentally out of a window while flying away from Israel, or anywhere really. "Leaving Israel" is well-recorded, and Thompson's piano work sounds clean and professional. Though only one track, "Leaving Israel" reveals Jenni Thompson's talents as a composer/arranger and pianist to the world, leaving you eagerly awaiting what her debut full-length, "A Portrait of Jenni," will have to offer. Fans of original classical piano are going to want to pick this one up.

"When the Boat Comes In" is an eclectic compilation of songs that feature the very talented wind instrument musician Andy Findon. Andy's virtuoso level of musicianship is evident throughout the CD. His arrangements are rich and multi-layered with an amazing number of different sounds blended together. The production and recording quality are very good. The songs vary greatly in style and genre, and include many songs/melodies that you will recognize, including the rock standard, Stairway to Heaven. The tracks are ordered in a manner that keeps your attention by taking you from one genre/tempo to an extremely different genre/tempo on the next track. We enjoy the fast-moving tracks the most, such as Molly on the Shore, Duelling Bamboos and Sabre Dance, which also includes some very creative style changes within the track. Whether you enjoy listening to the creative work of a musical master of his craft, or are particularly a fan of wind instruments such flute and clarinet, you will enjoy this CD. "Songs Without Words" is a soothing collection of instrumental classical/folk guitar compositions from Jeff Calcara. Calcara's musicianship is similar to that of folk guitarist Leo Kottke, though Calcara leans more toward the classical end than folk. Each song is lulling, original and carefully crafted; conveying a soothing, powerful and emotional message solely created from the picking and strumming of an acoustic guitar. "Songs Without Words" is also well-produced, with each note hitting the listeners ears crisply and cleanly. "Song of the Sea" is a befitting title as the song carries you away and hits you in waves of guitar perfection. The trio of tracks, "Lullaby #1," "Lullaby #2," and "Lullaby #3" make you want to just close your eyes and listen, putting you in such a state of relaxation that you may find it hard to avoid a complete state of subconsciousness. Collectively, "Songs Without Words" is an incredible album that shows the raw and lasting talent of guitarist Jeff Calcara. Guitar aficionados and anyone who simply enjoys a lulling classical/folk guitar sound should definitely pick this one up.

"LIVE!" is a classical album comprised of eight live performances from organ virtuoso Bryan G. Rowe. Rowe draws from his classical predecessors – Bach, Pachelbel, Duruflé, Franck, and Karg-Elert – as well as original compositions for this album, drawing from a number of Rowe's solo organ recitals from around the U.S. and England. The songs are true to the classical form, pay homage to Rowe's influences, and achieve a timeless quality. Each song is well-performed, evoking the driving, haunting sound of the organ and turning it into something beautiful. "LIVE!" is, of course, a collection of live recordings - Bach in one take - and it sounds great as it creates the feeling that you're inside a cathedral staring up at beautifully crafted stained glass windows. "Prelude in E-Flat Major, BWV 552" and "Jesu, Meine Freude, from Three Symphonic Chorales, Opus 87/2" are both Bach-originated organ pieces that Rowe brings beautifully back to life. "Ciacona in f" is a Pachelbel original and a great arrangement where you hang on to each individual note. With "LIVE!," Bryan G. Rowe shows his prowess as a classical organist and beautifully pays homage to his predecessors. Classical music aficionados and other organ enthusiasts, pick up this album.

"Nostalgia" by Hopalong is a delicate and cinematic classical album with jazz and latin undertones. The album lends itself well to movie score as the arrangements play to mood and emotion. The production value is excellent. It's mixed well and sounds great. The arrangements are subtle and appropriate for the concept. The sound is largely based around classical guitar and is "acoustic" for the most part. Highlights include "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?", which features some fine guitar work and smooth trumpet. "Infancia Y Juventud" features a nice guitar progression and heartfelt solo violin. "You Must Believe in Spring" is bluesy with great electric guitar work. If you enjoy beautiful instrumental music, or are looking for soothing music to give you a pleasant background as you work, you'll enjoy this CD.

"Necromanscer" by the Government Overdose Department is a creative and unusual mix of classical piano and deep, experimental vocals. The CD is a delightful yet unusual presentation of many well known classics from several countries. The piano work on the CD is clearly the work of an accomplished musician. The vocal style adds the uniqueness and creativity to the CD, since the vocals appear to be intended to create a more experimental/alternative flavor to the classic piano sound. This results in a unique combination that proves an innovative combination. The lyrics on the tracks are very humorous in places. "Ol Man River" is an old American classic most children learn or at least have heard in elementary school. "Caro Mio Ben" a presentation in the original language. The orchestral opening in "Droop Not Young Lover" is very typical for the period piece making one see the time of King Henry the V111. The simple piano in the opening of "Pupil Le Nere" again gives the 16th or 17th century feel. If you enjoy unusual and creative combinations of music, especially those with a classical aspect to them, you'll enjoy this CD.

"Acantilado" by Xavier Losada is a creative CD of experimental Chamber and Avant Garde music. It features 8 themes, 4 mastered and 4 remastered. It is a highly cinematic album, but in a minimalist way. The arrangements are certainly "out there" and will challenge your ears. Lots of tonal piano lines and progressions mixed with eerie sounds and some ethnic instruments. The quality of sound is quite good and attention was paid to every detail. Highlights include "La Calma," which is the lead-off track and lets you know right away what you are in store for as it fades in with faint gong strikes, followed by a promise filled piano line that eventually moves into a dark place. "La Meurte de Emp'edolces" features many unique ethnic sounds (rainsticks, digerdoos, etc...) and has a curious Tuba arrangement. If you like experimental classical music, you'll enjoy this inventive CD.

"Crystal Waters" by Neil Dunnachie is largely a classical guitar album with a little folk sprinkled on top. Neil's guitar work on the album is superb and the arrangements are beautiful. The quality of production is intentionally raw and puts you right in the room with Neil. It complements his style well as you get to experience a lot of the rhythmic accents in many of the pieces. Highlights are "Autumn Leaves," which gives you the auditory illusion of leaves falling with top-notch fluttery fingerpicking. "Woodpecker's Beat" features a little body tapping and makes you wonder where that third hand came from. "Angels" features vocals and several well layered guitar tracks. If you like Classical or Folk guitar, you will enjoy this one.

"Stories from the Human Village: War & Peace" by Susan Ferre' is a creative spoken word album that takes you on a journey through 400 years of human life. The format of the album is a combination of narrative tracks with musical tracks in between. The narrative tracks are well paced and tell an interesting story about changing kings and their influence on society, especially in terms of art and war. The musical tracks nicely capture the moods introduced by the narrative, and are generally based around the organ with organic elements here and there. Highlights include " Padre Rafael Angles, Aria in D Minor,".which is a down tempo piece with an emotion stirring arrangement. "Louis Vierne, E'toile du Soir" is another down tempo piece which also has a mysterious feel, and a silent element, where one feels like you could hear a pin drop in between measures. Other pieces such as "Fr. Antonio..." and "Louis Vierne, Carillon..." use blasting organ sounds to achieve a more battling and decisive feel. If you enjoy music that makes you think, especially about the subject of war, or you enjoy classical organ, you will like this CD.

"Life" by Dr. Jyotsna Srikanth features some wonderful violin work courtesy of Dr. Srikanth. It is largely based around Carnatic music (one of the two forms of Indian classical music). This particular style is typically written to be sung, but violin acts as the voice in these pieces. It's quite moving and very driven by emotion. Highlights of the album include "Memories," which features subtle, but memorable violin work. "Alone With Mother Nature" is a nice Jazz/Indian fusion with great violin and piano work. "Bowling the Violin" is an interesting up-tempo "almost" rock song with some tricky violin "solos". This is a relaxing, curious and adventurous album by an accomplished musician. If you like Jazz, anything fused with Jazz and beautiful violin, you will like this album.
